Mindfulness does not mean emptying your head. Here is how a single tone can give your attention somewhere to return, and how to keep the practice optional.
Many people try mindfulness once, decide their mind is too busy and give up. That reaction comes from a widespread misunderstanding: the practice was never about switching thoughts off.
In a sound-based exercise you might listen to a tone, find yourself thinking about dinner and then gently bring your attention back to the sound. That loop of noticing, drifting and coming back is not a failure. For many people it is the entire practice, repeated as often as needed.
You do not have to treat every tingle or shift in mood as a sign of energy moving. Some people find sound a pleasant anchor, while others prefer silence, breathing or a walking practice. Dr Christine Shen, Acupuncturist, offers sound sessions purely for relaxation and wellbeing, and she can talk with you about what you prefer. Participation is always optional, and you can stop at any time.

Small changes make a big difference to comfort. You can ask for a softer volume, sit further from the instruments, choose a chair over a mat or take a break part way through. Nobody expects a particular emotional reaction, and staying perfectly still is not required. Tell Christine what feels right, and keep in mind that an enjoyable session is not a substitute for medical care.

If worry, low mood or poor sleep has been hanging around for a while, those concerns deserve a broader conversation that includes your GP. Sound practice can sit alongside that care as a restful activity, but it is not designed to address an ongoing health problem.
Sessions are held at the Lane Cove clinic, which many people find an easy detour on the way home from work. Arrive a few minutes early so you are not rushing straight from traffic into the quiet. These notes are general and describe a wellbeing practice rather than a health service.
