FAQs › What Should I Wear to My Acupuncture Appointment?
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can be easily rolled up to the elbow and knee. You will be provided with modesty draping for any areas that need to be uncovered for treatment.
Acupuncture needles are placed at points throughout the body — the most common locations are the lower legs, arms, abdomen, back, and feet. Loose-fitting pants that roll up above the knee, and tops with sleeves that roll up above the elbow, are ideal. Avoid tight jeans, compression garments, or clothing that is difficult to adjust.
For back treatments, you will be lying face down — a top that can be easily removed or adjusted is helpful. For abdominal treatments (common in gynaecological conditions), a loose top that can be untucked is preferable. Modesty sheets and towels are always provided, and practitioners will only uncover the minimum area needed for treatment.
Remove any tight jewellery from wrists and ankles before treatment, as treatment points are commonly located at these areas. Remove nail polish if you are attending for pulse and nail examination (optional — not required for most patients but helpful for comprehensive TCM diagnosis).
After treatment, you will be in a deeply relaxed state — comfortable shoes you can easily slip on are recommended. Some patients prefer to bring a light layer to put on after treatment, particularly in cooler months.
